The healthcare industry is beginning to attract tremendous attention for offshore business process outsourcing. While the economy remains soft and information technology is taking a backseat, BPO continues to forge ahead.

Healthcare spending in the US has reached mammoth proportions with the nation spending about $1.65 trillion a year on healthcare. Critics contend that the healthcare industry and system in the US is failing on multiple fronts. While healthcare costs have sky rocketed on one hand – healthcare represents 15% of gross domestic product and consumes one-fourth of the federal budget, more than defense – healthcare providers including hospital, physicians and insurance companies are finding it hard to cope with the unwieldy administrative superstructure.
